Sought & Found: Did you visit J.Crew this {past} Weekend?

Posted on 21:00 by gaurav kumar
This is the weekly "sale watch" post, to help each other find sale items at our various local J.Crew stores. ;)

If you are stopped by a J.Crew store this past weekend to see what's available (if anything!) in the SUMMER & FALL sale, or to see some new FALL arrivals {sigh!} in person, maybe you might be willing to share that with us in this post. In particular, if you could share with us a few of the noteworthy items that are available, at what prices, and potential sizes the store is carrying (as well as the store location)- that would be fantastic!

Also, please let us know if your local store was/ is carrying an additional percent off sale. Thanks in advance!!! :)

J.Crew Email: IN STORES ONLY: 30% OFF all women's sweaters

Posted on 05:32 by gaurav kumar
"Thanks!" to many of you who made comments throughout the blog, including Just Visiting, Audrey S, as well as Twiga (in this post), IRL (in this post), AppGal & kerryr25 (in this post), to share the latest promotion from J.Crew.

J.Crew is offering 30% off all Women's Sweaters in their brick and mortar (B&M) stores! This promotion expires this Monday, October 11, 2010. The following is the fine print of this offer:
*Offer valid in J.Crew retail stores on women's sweaters only. Offer is not valid on jcrew.com orJ.Crew Factory items. Offer cannot be redeemed for cash or applied to previous purchases.Offer valid through Monday, October 11, 2010, 11:59pm ET.
Some JCAs have mentioned being able to use the additional 25% card with this promo, while others have been denied. With the additional 25% off, certain sweaters become a really great deal! So take a chance and check with your local B&M store to see if they will honor both. :)

Have you taken advantage of this latest promotion? If so, what items did you pick up?

J.Crew & New Balance Collaboration

Posted on 21:05 by gaurav kumar
As mentioned in the September 21st "J.Crew Kicks It Up a Notch with Ads & New Balance" post, J.Crew is teaming up with New Balance. The following is an article from the StyleList (click here to read in its entirety) that shares a bit more about what is to come:
J.Crew and New Balance Collaborate on New Balance 1400 Sneakers
By Lisa Mars
September 30, 2010

J.Crew's about to get some new kicks. The retailer is collaborating with New Balance on a special edition of New Balance 1400 sneakers available only from J.Crew stores, the J.Crew catalog, and the J.Crew Liquor Store in NYC starting Nov. 1.

These iconic trainers will be available in two never-before-seen colors – navy and moss-green suede – chosen by the shoemaker and Frank Muytjens, J.Crew's head of men's design. The footwear will be manufactured in New Balance's Maine factory (which certainly adds to their prep street cred).

Muytjens first saw the 1400s on a trip to Japan and bought himself a pair in bottle green. Upon his return, he discovered that Millard "Mickey" Drexler, the company's CEO, is also a fan of New Balance, referring to them as "the coolest shoes ever," a J.Crew spokesperson shared with StyleList.

New Balance is just the latest in a long list of cool collaborations J.Crew has entered into with brands like Belstaff, Essie, Ray-Ban, Fenton/Fallon, and Imogene + Willie.

The shoes are only available in men's sizes, but that doesn't preclude women shoppers from snapping up the smaller pairs. And even better, this partnership runs into 2011, so anything is possible.

And there's more exciting menswear news from the retailer: Check out The Rassle rocking J.Crew's Ludlow suit.

Meanwhile, it just might be time for a new pair of sneaks -- reportedly, men don't notice women in heels.
I have to say, the sneakers do look pretty darn good. I would love to see something for the ladies. :)

Now that you have seen the exclusive New Balance for J.Crew sneakers, do you think you will get a pair? Do you think they should include the Women with this partnership?

J.Crew's Mickey Drexler as "The Merchant" {part 2}

Posted on 21:15 by gaurav kumar
As mentioned in the September 21st "J.Crew's Mickey Drexler as "The Merchant"" post, the New Yorker (click here to read in its entirety) had a great article on J.Crew & its CEO Mickey Drexler. Unfortunately, many of us could not read the entire article.

A big "thanks!" to Maria, who scanned the entire article to share with us. Just click on any of the images to read the article.

As I mentioned before, this article is an interesting read! You really get a feel on who Mickey Drexler is and how he likes to operate.

What are your thoughts on the article? Do you like Mickey Drexler more or less after reading this article? Any points you found particularly interesting or note-worthy? If so, please share! :)

J.Crew Menswear Now Available in the UK {yey!}

Posted on 21:05 by gaurav kumar
Drapers (click here for the article in its entirety) shares some news for the guys across the pond who love J.Crew too:
J.Crew menswear makes UK debut at new London indie
By Caroline Parry
October 1, 2010

London premium menswear indie Trunk Clothiers has become the first UK menswear stockist of US casualwear brand J Crew.

Trunk Clothiers, which opened on September 9 in London’s Marylebone, will stock a range of shirts from the US brand and will add more products if it proves successful. ...

J Crew, which is available in the US and shipped to online customers in Japan, made its UK wholesale debut in February launching womenswear on luxury etailer Net-a-Porter.

Trunk Clothiers founder and managing director Mats Klingberg got to know the brand through his previous job as a senior manager in global partnerships at American Express.

He told Drapers: “I met the [J Crew] creative director at a cocktail party in Japan. The brand wanted to test the UK market and they liked the brand mix and target customer of the store. We’re starting slowly with only shirts but I hope it will become more.”

Klingberg funded and designed the two-storey Trunk Clothiers store himself, with a palette of warm greys and light wood, which he said nodded to his Swedish heritage. It will launch a transactional website later this month.

He added that he wanted to create a shop that would cater to an international audience, offering “easy to wear, intelligently-designed clothes” and excellent customer service. ...
This is great for J.Crew. They get to expand their brand while testing the market. Hopefully J.Crew will be successful overseas.

What are your thoughts on J.Crew selling its private brand through another storefront? Do you think it is a smart move? Will you shop at Trunk Clothiers if you live in the area?

J.Crew's Jenna Lyons Makes It On Bobbi Brown's "Beauty Rules"

Posted on 21:05 by gaurav kumar

A big "thanks!" to Slastena (who runs the amazing "About All and Nothing at All" blog) who let us know about an interview with Jenna Lyon's in Bobbi Brown's new book "Beauty Rules".

To read the entire article, just click on the image to view it larger. The following text is just a quick snapshot:
Interview: Jenna Lyons
Top Stylist Tells All

Jenna Lyons is one of the most amazing people working in fashion today. As creative director of J.Crew, she's in charge of everything from what clothes are sold to how the stores look to the models you see in the catalogs. That's a huge job, and she does it well. But the coolest thing about Jenna is her style: she's super-eclectic. She can take the basics or something that might have come out of grandma's closet and make it look new again. She's further proof that classic doesn't have to be boring.
Moreover, in Slastena's "Discover Bobbi Brown's New Book "Beauty Rules" ......" post, she tells (& shows!) us that J.Crew's influence can be found everywhere: from the clothes, jewelry, to models!

I have to say, I love the styling found inside the book! It's the kind of layering that I would definitely wear.

What are your thoughts on Bobbi Brown's "Beauty Rules"? Do you like the interview with Jenna Lyons?

Posted on 05:06 by gaurav kumar
"Thanks!" to many of you, including Fabulous Florida Mommy (in this post) & Marietta, who shared the following news & emails (yes, two different versions!) sent by J.Crew this morning.

The first email features the Lindy Platform Peep Toes (Item 31982, $265.00), which J.Crew describes as
Our newest love, Lindy, in fine Italian leather, with a cool crisscross design, zipper detailing and a leg-lengthening platform. Exposed metal zipper at side. Elastic goring. Man-made lining and sole. 4 1/8" self-covered heel with a 3/4" exterior platform. Made in Italy. Available in select stores.
The second email features the Wool Origami Sheath Dress (Item 29867; $198.00). J.Crew describes this one-of-a-kind dress as:
Hailing from a mill in Biella, Italy (known for its exquisite fabrics), this sultry wool flannel stunner is impeccably tailored to fit and flatter in all the right places. We love the folding detail at the neck and flattering cap sleeves. Our go-to dress for the season, it's perfect for work and beyond. Back zip. Slight A-line skirt. Fully lined. Falls above knee. Import. Dry clean. Catalog/jcrew.com only.
J.Crew is offering free shipping on orders of $100+ with promo code AUTUMN. This offer expires 10/6/10.

The Great (Weekly) Exchange {looking to sell}

Posted on 21:02 by gaurav kumar
This post (of weekly posts) is for individual members who want to swap/sell/share among yourselves. This post is where you can mention your items and outside listing/ auction site (like eBay and eCrater & the corresponding user ID).

Please note: this posting is not for resellers. If you are a reseller, your comment gets automatically deleted & you will get publicly called out on it. :( So instead of this, simply do not post in the Weekly Exchanges. Thanks in advance for your cooperation! :)

Please note that any transactions are independent of this blog. (Especially since you will be using an outside listing/ auction site like eBay or eCrater.) I have no dealings or interactions with any of the potential communication, listings, or transactions. :) Moreover, please limit comments about items to swap/sell/share to the "Great (Weekly) Exchange" posts. (Refer to "A Quick Note to J.Crew Aficionadas" post.)

Do you have any items you would like to swap/sell/share among yourselves through your outside listing/auction site?

Sidenote: What's up with JCAs writing "sub" or "subscribing" as their comment? It just means they are subscribing to all the comments (which are then automatically sent to their email) in that particular thread. This way they can stay aware of all the comments posted. :)
